Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Pre and Post Op Plastic Surgery

With the increased popularity of getting plastic surgery abroad, more people are requesting Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLDM) to prepare for, and recover from, their surgery.

MLDM is beneficial after surgery as it speeds up the healing process by reducing swelling and bruising, increasing the removal of cellular waste, reducing pain, reducing inflammation and decreasing the risk of infection.

Ideally you should have 1 to 2 sessions in the week prior to surgery to prepare the body, then start a programme of treatments after the surgery until full healing has been achieved.

Pre-op :

1-2 sessions in the week prior to surgery

Post-op :

First week: The first MLDM should be given in the hospital, after the surgery. After you are discharged from hospital you should start MLDM 3 days after surgery or on your surgeons recommendation.

First 3 weeks: one to three sessions per week

Three to six weeks post-surgery: one to two sessions every week

Three to six months after surgery: one session every week

Six to twelve months after surgery: one session per month as maintenance

The number of sessions can be adapted as per the surgeons recommendations.

It can take up to a year to fully recover from surgery, so the body will continue to benefit form MLDM for several months after the procedure.

Contra-indications

It is not possible to do MLDM on people with the following conditions: Acute Cellulitis, Untreated Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Untreated Deep Vein Thrombosis, Fever.

If you have Cancer or Renal Dysfunction it is essential that you consult with your doctor before receiving MLDM. For those clients with a cancer diagnosis please see Oncology Massage.

Please contact me to discuss your needs before you have your surgery.

Holistic and Wellbeing Treatments to Support you through your Cancer Journey

Although these treatments cannot cure cancer, they can combine with mainstream treatments to help soothe the mind, body and spirit whilst you are on your cancer journey.

They are also there to help the people supporting you through your journey as this can be a stressful time for family and friends as well as the person with the diagnosis.

Oncology Massage:  has been specially designed for cancer patients to be used at any stage in their journey. This is a very gentle massage that can soothe and relax the body. We use the Jenifer Young Defiant Beauty product range that has been specifically designed to use on cancer patients, to nourish the skin and bring relief from the issues that may be caused by the different medical treatments.

Oncology Facial: As above, this has been specifically designed to help your skin and treat the unique issues that face you on this journey.

Reiki: This is an energy healing treatment that is used to bring peace to the mind and body. Many people find this treatment relaxing and helps them to calm their anxiety. It is often used during palliative care as it helps people with the emotional healing that they need at the end of their life, making for a gentler transition.

EFT: A cancer diagnosis can produce a full range of emotions, which can often be hard to deal with. This treatment helps you explore and then release the emotions as they arise. Once learnt it can be extremely useful as a self-help technique and can be used for couples and families as they deal with the many issues they have to face.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is an adapted form of massage that can be performed after the first trimester. It is recommended that you receive permission for your Doctor or Midwife before receiving this type of massage.
