Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Pre and Post Op Cosmetic Surgery
Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLDM) is recommended to prepare for, and recover from cosmetic surgery.
MLDM is beneficial after surgery as it speeds up the healing process by reducing swelling and bruising, increasing the removal of cellular waste, reducing pain, reducing inflammation and decreasing the risk of infection.
Ideally you should have 1 to 2 sessions in the week prior to surgery to prepare the body, then start a programme of treatments after the surgery until full healing has been achieved.

Pre-op :
1-2 sessions in the week prior to surgery
Post-op :
First week: The first MLDM should be given in the hospital, after the surgery. After you are discharged from hospital you should start MLDM 3 days after surgery or on your surgeons recommendation.
First 3 weeks: one to three sessions per week
Three to six weeks post-surgery: one to two sessions every week
Three to six months after surgery: one session every week
Six to twelve months after surgery: one session per month as maintenance
The number of sessions can be adapted as per the surgeons recommendations.
It can take up to a year to fully recover from surgery, so the body will continue to benefit form MLDM for several months after the procedure.
Contra-indications
It is not possible to do MLDM on people with the following conditions: Acute Cellulitis, Untreated Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Untreated Deep Vein Thrombosis, Fever.
If you have Cancer or Renal Dysfunction it is essential that you consult with your doctor before receiving MLDM. For those clients with a cancer diagnosis please see Oncology Massage.
